This Thursday, May 10th Good Peoples invites you to ffiXXed, a collaborative art and design project

….presented by Pleasure Principle at the EVA store and concept shop located on The Bowery.

Founded in 2008 in Berlin, ffiXXed is a collaborative art and design project by Australian artists/design duo Kain Picken and Fiona Lau. They are the designers of a unisex, pret a porter fashion label, which also develops  a range of other art and design related activities.

ffiXXed often uses the framework of fashion to participate in a wider discussion about new possibilities for the consumption and production of contemporary culture. The ffiXXed collections respond to the role clothing and objects play in constructing our daily lives.

In this New York installation, the imagery from the SS12 ffiXXed  apparel collection ‘Customised Interdependancies’ were printed large scale onto a vinyl fabric. Once printed, the image was combined with different fabrics used within the collection and made into an enclosed space allowing people to enter “the ffiXXed universe”.

On Thursday 5/10/12, walk through the doors of the EVA store, and experience The ffiXXed Universe. There will be complimentary cocktails and a private discounted sale on selected merchandise throughout the store.

About the space: EVA
Located on the Bowery, EVA has served as the unique downtown Manhattan location for vanguard of directional design. EVA believes in a commitment to breaking local and international innovators whose progressive approach has proved transformative to the downtown New York fashion, design and art scene.

Since 2001, EVA has acted as a retail launching pad and art space for both established and young designers worldwide, and as a channel through which one-of-a- kind design is accessible.

About the presenters: Pleasure Principal
Pleasure Principle is a conceptual artistic approach to sportswear fashion design created in collaboration between New York based artists and designers Adrian Cowen and Diva Pittala.  Pleasure Principal has partnered with EVA for a collaborative series: “Pleasure Principal & Friends” to highlight up and coming designers, their exploration into the art space, and to demonstrate the enhanced community and powerful relationship that can exist at the crossroads of art, design and retail.

ABOUT ORBIT
Orbit was originally conceived as a fine art print and video project for a small pole dancing company in NYC. When talking with the company’s owners, it was apparent that their main issue in the industry they worked so hard to establish themselves in, was the stigma attached to pole dancers, as seedy and stripper- related. This company had worked hard to gain recognition as gymnasts and athletes, with the workouts and lessons that they teach at the studio. It was this thinking that bore fruit to the idea of turning a visual series of dancers on it’s head. Literally and figuratively. The idea was to rotate the imagery of these performers to appear anti-gravity, and to strip away any fashion and cultural references that were previously associated with the art form, and have the only focus being the athleticism and beauty of the body in air. The pole acted as an axis around which the performers ‘orbited’.This video and image installation highlights what these creators do best…play with your perception.

Onlookers will find an alternate view of of weight, gravity and direction within a deeper study of motion and shape.

The launch event for the Orbit installation will not only display large format images, but premiere a perception altering video installation and live pole performance.

It will be a magical night of musical transposition where our guests will play incredible tracks relating to their own understanding of the “telephoned” concept: a mixture of strict cover songs, tasteful mash-ups and era-fusing remixes.

An intervention refers to art which enters a situation outside the art world in an attempt to change the existing conditions there.

Jules Kim, of Jewelry brand Bijules, redefines fashion standards by experimenting with humor and confidence. This Vogue Italia featured darling will intervene into the current Tofer Chin show at the Lu Magnus Gallery in New York City. Taking Chin’s current show, and adding jewelry and Bijules inspired pieces to the currently displayed works of art.

Join us this New York Fashion Week, on Friday, February 10th from 6-9pm as the Tofer Chin + Bijules collaborative pieces are revealed and available for sale – numerated and signed by the artists.

About Tofer Chin
A native of Los Angeles, Tofer Chin was born in 1979 and graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in LA. His work has been seen in Parque Lage, a public park in Rio de Janeiro, as well as in São Paulo, where he was commissioned to do a large-scale permanent installation. As a member of ROJO® NOVA, Chin has exhibited at the Museum of Image and Sound in São Paulo in 2010, at the Rojo Art Space in Milan in 2009, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid in 2008. With past solo shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Barcelona, Totally is his first New York solo exhibition. In Fall 2013, Chin will have his first Latin American solo exhibition in São Paulo. Tofer Chin currently divides his time between Los Angeles and São Paulo.

After going one year strong and being awarded “Best Dance Party At A Dive” by The Village Voice, Nextah moves into Manhattan at DROM nightclub to present the first live show of band Cubic Zirconia (Fools Gold Records) who will also be shooting a music video on site at the party!  Joining the performance is very special guest Andrea Balency all the way from Mexico.  This French/Mexican Red Bull Music Academy 2011 Alum turns heads with multi-layered instrumental pop alternate mixed tunes has been making waves internationally with her music and is on her way to dropping her first record 1st quarter 2012. All this combines with the usual Nextah residents and our host, Katie Longmyer – the Queen Bee of Good Peoples who will be celebrating her birthday.
